Fits mechanical parts and subassemblies into different types of machinery and products. Conducts measures of products and adjusts them. Responsible for upkeep of workstation. Works according to established trade and shop practices. Typically has 0-2 years of experience and works under close supervision.

Primary Job Functions – below is a general description of the essential functions of this job. This is not an exhaustive list and employees in these classifications frequently may be required to perform additional duties. Not all classifications will be required to perform all job functions. The employee is responsible for the quality assurance requirements of each task performed.

Disassembles and assembles fittings on tank cars. Tests tank car, fittings, and valves to reveal possible defects. Rebuilds tank car fittings, valves and tests them using specified methods. Identifies leaks in coils for repair using specified procedures. Conducts single car brake test when required. Maintains work area in a neat and orderly manner and reports potential hazards.

Knowledge and Skills Required

      Must be able to do either one of the following:

1.   Provide proof of completing an 8th grade education or High School Education

Pass a Wonderlic Basic Skills Verbal test at the 6th grade level. Pass job related computational test or demonstrate ability to read gauges, rulers and other applicable measuring devices.
